It's just amazing. It has taught me new skills I will take home with me. After Roger taught us how to pick the best spot on the beach to fish, I located a spot on the beach I thought was very fishy, and it proved to be the case. I then landed my first salmon—brilliant!"

 For long-time Roger's Fishing community member John Stokes, a 13-hour drive from Queensland seemed like a lot. He wrestled with the time, cost, and distance, but now he calls it the best decision he could have made.

Gary came to the weekend with a new Alvey rod and reel and no idea how to use it. Thanks to Roger’s guidance, Gary went from hesitant to confident, quickly landing some of the biggest fish of the weekend.

“They helped me with casting, and taught me how to use an Alvey rod and reel properly. Within minutes, I’d landed a salmon! It was incredible.” – Gary

In fact, Gary’s success wasn’t a one-time thing. After just 10-15 minutes of coaching, he was casting farther, with more control, and catching fish he’d only dreamed about before.

“I increased my casting distance by another 10-15 metres, and I ended up catching the biggest fish of the weekend – a 50 cm salmon! I even caught the smallest fish, a three-inch puffer, so I got both ends of the spectrum.”

Gary’s takeaway? It wasn’t just about learning to use the gear – it was about building confidence and seeing results instantly.

The adventure begins Friday afternoon at Burrill Pines Conference Centre, just steps from Wairo Beach. After meeting Roger and the other fishos, you’ll kick off with an intensive beachworming session. If you’ve tried catching beachworms and failed, Roger’s expert techniques, honed over 50 years, will change everything. With hands-on support from Roger and his team, you’ll be beachworming with confidence in no time.

Saturday starts with a hearty breakfast, fueling up for a day of learning and action. Roger leads you through rigging and casting sessions, giving you personalized guidance to ensure your gear is optimized for results. Their inclusive coaching caters to anglers of all levels, making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Whether you're looking to improve your beach fishing or beachworming technique or learn from seasoned pros, you'll have the opportunity to gain their expertise again.

Laurie Saler

With an impressive 50 years of fishing experience, Laurie Saler is a true veteran of the sport. His expertise spans many skills, including beach worming, soft plastics, casting techniques, and reel maintenance. Laurie is particularly well-known for his success in targeting big Mulloway on the beach, and he's always eager to share his passion for beach fishing with others. At the last event, his hands-on guidance and practical tips were a highlight for many, and we're thrilled to have him back to continue helping anglers of all levels.

Haydn Myer

Haydn Myer, a passionate local angler from Ulladulla, brings a fresh approach to fishing. His enthusiasm for beach fishing and maintaining gear is infectious, and he has a knack for making even the most challenging techniques achievable. Haydn's down-to-earth teaching style and practical advice were a big hit the previous weekend, and we're excited to welcome him back to offer more insights this coming weekend. Whether a beginner or an experienced angler, Haydn's guidance will help you sharpen your fishing skills and maximise your time on the beach.

Accommodation:

The conference centre offers bunk beds for sleeping in rooms for up to six people. It is not five-star but clean and comfortable. It has a small kitchenette, a hot shower, and a short walk to the beach.

Food arrangements for the weekend will be as follows:

• Breakfast each day will be a simple self-serve of Cereals, Sourdough Toast, Coffee, Tea & Juices.

Lunch

• Buy your own from the local cafe, bakery etc

Dinner

• Friday Night - order in your own takeaway
• Saturday Night = Cooked by Roger - pre-dinner nibbles followed by Valencian Paella (chicken & chorizo) with King Prawns.
